Want to Flip a House But Having Trouble with Promotion? Here’s Why

Do you see marketing as being a pest? It’s a strange question, but it’s one of the most important questions you can ask yourself if you want to flip a house. The truth is, if you have a terrible time promoting yourself or the property you want to resell, the big culprit could be your subconscious ideas about marketing. Many people assume that marketing is about aggressively pestering someone. Many people associate marketing with aggressive telemarketers or pushy salespeople. If this is your subconscious view, too, you will have a hard time selling anything at a profit. Quite simply, you will be so uncomfortable with the idea of marketing that you will avoid making a fair bargain, you will avoid going after the sellers that are interested in your property, and you'll eventually be robbing both yourself and your buyers of a good deal.

The first step to dealing with troubles with promotion is to identify the problem. What subconscious messages are you sending yourself about promotion? Do you tell yourself that promoting is somehow bad or pushy? Do you see marketing as an aggressive strategy, designed to separate people from their hard-earned cash? Do you resent it when other people market their products, ideas, or services to you? Working with pen and paper, identify all the possible negative associations, phrases, ideas, and beliefs you may have about marketing and promoting anything.

Once you have done this, take a look at your list. Does it logically make sense to think this way? If you still see marketing as something even slightly negative, consider this: if you met a friend, and that friend started to tell you when great movie he or she had seen last night, would you see this as an aggressive gesture? Most of us would not. The truth is, this person is marketing.

In fact, marketing is nothing more than sharing information. If you want to flip a house and are marketing a house that you have purchased, what you are in fact doing is not trying to cheat anyone, but you are rather telling potentially interested buyers about a house. By describing the features of the house or property, you're outlining the possible benefits the buyer may get from the property. In this country, everyone is free to do or buy what they wish. There's certainly no way that you can push someone into buying a property they do not want, and if you are good real estate investor, you are interested in getting value for both yourself and your buyer, so you are certainly not out to cheat your client.

As you start to flip a house, you may notice that it is easier for you to promote the property, your business, and all the advantages of a particular property you are trying to resell. This is progress. Ideally, you want to feel better and better about your chosen business and also about marketing. It will make a tremendous impact on your bottom line.
